Recent Breakthrough: Captiva Lab introduced a fully automated integration with UPLC Mass Spec Method for Oral Fluids (saliva) Testing as collaborative program with Shimadzu Scientific Corporation

Captiva, under the direction of Dr. Manoj Tyagi and Lab Operations Manager, Nathan Defrietas, is proud to announce our groundbreaking work on a new test method for oral fluids. This pioneering approach to oral testing represents Captiva’s goal to introduce a more efficient method to test oral samples. The method utilizes the CLAM-2000 to automate oral sample preparation for testing on the Shimadzu UPLCMS system. The many months of testing in our lab and final success of this fully automated oral testing method was achieved in collaboration with Shimadzu, as noted in a recent article published by Shimadzu, “Fully Automated Sample Preparation and UPLCMS Analysis of Drugs in Oral Fluid”. We are the first client of Shimadzu to deploy this new method using the CLAM-2000 as the first sample preparation module that fully integrated with the LC/MS analyzer and is fully automated. It is the first sample preparation module that fully integrates with LC separation and MS detection of small molecules. It has analyzed 122 drugs and deuterated internal standards in oral fluid matrix with the detection limits of 2 ng/mL. The module is capable of parallel processing of up to four samples simultaneously and enables it to keep up with the current sub-five-minute LCMS methods.

The fully automated sample preparation and analysis of over 100 samples were performed with the CLAM-2000 LCMS system. It exhibited a high degree of reproducibility while decreasing sample preparation time by humans, increasing lab efficiency. Captiva Lab is proud to be at the forefront of innovation as we seek to further improve sample processing.
